Iva Jane Lewis Wiggs

I called her Grannie.  My paternal grandmother.

born:  October 12, 1902 in Beardstown, located in Perry County, Tennessee
death:  September 3, 1989, Centerville, Tennessee

Grannie was the oldest daughter.




Marriage:  William David (W.D.) Lewis, on February 5, 1922
They were married sitting in a buggy with her sister, Martha May, sitting on a horse beside her.  They left for Nashville after the wedding.  It was the first time Grannie had been out of the area she was raised in.  She had never even been to Centerville, just a few miles away.  They caught a train to Dickson and then the train to Nashville, arriving at Union Station.

She miscarried two boys before James was born.  Mildred & Lucille were born in Nashville at a hospital.  The doctor came and picked Grannie up for Mildred's birth.  Papa delivered Daddy and Thelma at home.  Grannie nearly bleed to death giving birth to Thelma.

They were renting a farm, working on their own behalf.  Each was born in Tennessee.

Lodgers:  Robert Nixon (30 years old, checker at Silk Mill)
wife:  Maggie Nixon (20 years old)

Most of their neighbors worked at the Silk Mill.
